Lovely, medium sized elegant palm, similar to the Golden Cane. It originates in the rainforests of Madagascar and grows to around 6m tall. It is usually a clumping palm; however, it has been seen as a single trunked specimen as well. It can form beautiful colourful crown shafts in different variations, some palms develop a nearly white crown shaft, covered in a substance resembling chalk. New leaves emerge pink. Dypsis baronii is one of the most cold-tolerant of the Palms from Madagascar, and would be great for gardens & pots throughout the country. It is best grown in light shade, in well draining, consistently moist (not water-logged) soil. It is frost hardy to several degrees. Can be grown indoors. Dypsis baronii grows fairly fast under the right conditions, it responds well to regular fertilizing during the growing seasons, and does best in a spot protected from winds.
