Licuala Grandis is a very beautiful, dainty palm with a height of aprox 2 m. It originates in South East Asia and is a rainforest understory palm. It thrives outside in zones 10-12 with winter temperatures over 3C, but also makes in excellent house or patio plant in a nice warm spot. When grown as patio plant, bring the plant inside during heavy winds or when temperatures tend to fall beneath 2C. Grandis is a very attractive palm with a single trunk and glossy, dark green whole leaves.

In the garden it looks great with other elegant tropicals like the Foxtail, Alex Palm or Anthuriums. Being a forest palm, it’s best to provide some shade if grown in a sunny spot. The best spot filters morning sun. It can however grow in full sun in high humidity areas. As roots are shallow and spreading, heavy groundcover mulch with a rich decaying organic base should be applied. Keep protected from strong winds.

Common names: Ruffled Fan Palm, Vanuatu Fan Palm, Palas Payung

Size: medium plants, 20-30cm
