Alpine Strawberry 'Ali Baba' (Fragaria vesca)

Strawberry Ali Baba is a woodland strawberry, or 'wild' strawberry. The fruits, which follow the small white flowers, have a beautiful strong flavour and are great for eating fresh, straight of the strawberry plant, or making into jam. The plants themselves are fairly small, around 20cm tall, and have nice, lush, bright green foliage. Alpine Strawberries are non-running and only clump from the base of the plant. Propagation is from seed and can sometimes be done from offsets as well.

Strawberry Ali Baba is very easy to grow, as long as adequate water is given. They are best grown in full sun to part shade, in temperate to subtropical climates. It's best to cover your Strawberry plants with some netting to keep birds & wildlife away from the fruits.

Common names:

Strawberry Bush Alpine, Alpine Strawberry, Ali Baba Strawberry

Size: medium plants, 75mm pot size (see photo)

I recently bought a classic palm pack from you and they are all very well and shooting. We babied them along in a greenhouse and did exactly as your very helpful sheet told us. I was a bit worried about them being too cold in Melbourne but so far so good. All your info was fantastic! Thank you, Avril
